Copy of Ein Alaq Bombings Rocks Sad Boushriyeh, Wounding 10

Retrieved from Naharnet on June 5, 2007

A powerful blast ripped through a bus parked at the entrance to a business center in Mar Taqla area of Sad Boushriyeh district northeast of Beirut Monday wounding at least ten people, security sources said.

The explosion also inflicted damage to the front of the bus, cars parked in the crowded area and at least 10 shops in the business center, they added.

One source said the blast was similar to the one that targeted two commuting busses in the town of Ein Alaq on Feb. 13, killing and wounding at least 20 people.

The Ein Alaq twin bombings were blamed by the Lebanese government on the Fatah al-Islam terrorist network which is engaged in a fierce confrontation with the Lebanese army at the northern refugee camp of Nahr al-Bared.

Ambulances and fire engines, their sirens wailing, rushed to the scene of the blast minutes after the explosion echoed across the stricken area.

Helmeted Lebanese troops set up checkpoints and searched the area for suspects as well as for more bombs.

Lebanon has been hit by a wave of bomb blasts blamed mainly on Fatah al-Islam terrorist network which Lebanese authorities say is affiliated with Syrian military intelligence.
